A customer brought in a specimen of what turned out to be a debris-carrying green lacewing larva. The debris consisted mostly of dead ants. I found one bark beetle too, along with fibrous, stringy materials. 13 May 2019, Columbia Ca.
Turns out that debris-carrying green lacewings, in amber, are reported from the mid-Cretaceous period, roughly 100-130 million years ago. This is an ancient behavior.
